You Will Be Challenged 2 - Daily Bible Study
The Bible is the number one selling book in the world. While people have Bibles, they know little about scripture and its origin. The daily readings will help you know for yourself what the Bible says about itself, its authorship and its value in our lives. We will also discover books that are not in the Bible
On Wednesday, the day of our class, there is no scripture reading. Instead, there is Bonus learning for those who want to Go Deeper. Come prepared to go on an Incredible Journey in Bible Study, at 11:30 am, or 6:45 pm.
THURSDAY:
The word bible means “library.” The Christian Bible is made of 66 books, in two (2) divisions – Old & New Testaments. It is written by 40 authors over a period of 1,500 years. Moses was the first person to write portions of scripture, while John was the last.
The Bible was written on three (3) continents, in three (3) languages – Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic.
Today’s Bible readings will enlighten you on the Spiritual origin of scripture and the value of scripture in our lives.
2 Timothy 3:10–4:5
2 Peter 1:16–21
Psalm 119:9–16
Psalm 19:7–14
FRIDAY:
People are challenging the trustworthiness of scripture, and some are even “departing from the faith” by following different doctrines, twisted from scripture. What assurance do we have that we can trust scripture, and how should we handle it in the face of challenges?
Jeremiah 1:12
Isaiah 40:8
Mark 13:31
Luke 24:44–49
Matthew 22:29
1 Timothy 4:1–16
1 Timothy 6:3–10
MONDAY:
How was it determined what books belong in the Bible, which means “library,” and which books don’t? Did you know that there are some books in some Bibles that are not in others? Did you know that the Bible itself mentions books that are not included? Before we begin today’s reading, get to know these two (2) words:
Canon: a criterion, rule, principle or law by which something is judged
The list of books accepted as genuine and sacred, and collected in the bible (library), is known as the “biblical canon.”
Apocrypha: a collection of books found in some editions of the Bible, but are not “canonized”; usually because of unknown authorship, or doubtful origin.
See if you can discover at least 10 books and letters mentioned in the Bible, but that we do not have in our ‘library.’
