What Do You Have in Your House?

2 Kings 4:1–7

Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha,

“Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord,

but the creditor has come to take my two children to be his bondservants.”

2 And Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you?

Tell me; what have you in the house?” And she said,

“Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.”

3 Then he said, “Go outside (go abroad), borrow vessels from all your neighbors,

empty vessels and do not get a few.

4 Then go in and shut the door behind yourself and your sons

and pour into all these vessels. And when one is full, set it aside.”

5 So she went from him and shut the door behind herself and her sons.

And as she poured they brought the vessels to her.

6 When the vessels were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.”

And he said to her, “There is not another.” Then the oil stopped flowing.

7 She came and told the man of God, and he said,

“Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest.”

This is an un-named woman, with disadvantages

 – which means it could be any one of us

This woman stands between her Past & her Future

·       Past decisions have tainted her present

·       Those past decisions are threatening her future – the children

You have to answer the same 2 questions as this woman:

1.    “Who will own your future?”

2.    “What do you have in you?”

The Lord created you with a Purpose & Unique Abilities

Not just genius – Dorcus was a seamstress (Acts 9)

                          Craftsmen, embroiderers, apothecary – creators

When you commit to use what’s in you for your future

God will give you a Strategy

The Lord’s strategies always involve RISK

The Biblical term is “FAITH”

Ø Faith to do what the Lord says

Shut the Door:  Spiritual things are foolish to the natural mind – 1 Cor 2:14

Spiritual Transactions have to happen in a Spiritual Environment

When Jesus said Jairus’ daughter would live, the mourners laughed Him to scorn

He had to put them out

Gen 1:1. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Learn to work in two dimensions:  “heaven and earth”

·       You have to learn how to connect with people outside your comfort level

·       She went back into the earth dimension to “go and sell”

Don’t get paid for your time – get paid for your value

1.    Pay your bills – the wicked borrow & don’t pay back Ps 37:21

2.    Live on the rest

‘More than Enough’ for your Present & your Future
