How to Make a New Year's Resolution

What are the top 3 New Year’s Resolutions?

1.     Eat healthier / Lose weight

2.     Exercise more

3.     Save (more) / Spend less

Why do we make resolutions that we don’t even stick to for a month?

We don’t make resolutions, we make wishes

We want to change our actions without changing our mind

Resolute:  firmly determined; set in purpose

Ps 27:4 KJV

One thing have I desired (sha’al) of the Lord, that will I seek after

Prov 13:4 KJV

The soul of the sluggard desireth (avah), and hath nothing

avah: to wish; to want; to wait longingly

sha’al: to ask; to enquire; to beg; to go after

If it’s REAL Desire – Action follows desire

Success rewards action

Succeeding is like climbing a Mountain –

You need experienced climbers w/ you & the right equipment

In 2019… Only keep “Can Do” company

Eccl 4:9-10

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:

10 If one falls down, his friend can help him up.

But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good character." – 1 Cor 15:33

Bad company steals your optimism, your joy & your future

Keep your promises

          Your word should mean something

Your words obligate you

God is going to judge idle words – Matt 12:36

Respect time

Eph 5:15-16 CJB

Therefore, pay careful attention to how you conduct your life –

live wisely, not unwisely. 16 Use your time well, for these are evil days.

Stop Procrastinating:  Structure & routines, good habits, operating systems

Take care of Your business

Prov 22:29 KJV

Seest thou a man diligent in his business?

He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men

Be a “One Another” Minister

Eph 4:32

Be kind to one another,                    Pleasant – be more polite, smile at strangers, say “I’m sorry”

tenderhearted,                                Feel sympathy & show concern for others

forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

It’s hard to climb the mountain of success carrying someone on your back

Serve someone else – celebrate, honor

Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant. – Mark 10:43

Increase your capacity

God created you with the capacity to increase

“Be fruitful and multiply” – Gen 1:28

Isa 54:1-2

Sing, O barren, you who have not borne!  Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you who have not labored with child!  For more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married woman," says the Lord.  2 "Enlarge the place of your tent and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes.

God is not going to increase you until you increase your capacity

Remember the woman with the pots and the oil?

You understand this process when seeking a job promotion

What about the things you say you “Desire”?

Are you “wishing” or are you “going after”?

“Power of Two Hours”invest 2 hours a week into personal growth

Women invest more to looking better

Men invest more on vicarious sports

Answer to Faith, not fear

Life is too short to live scared

The average person lets fear, not faith, determine their future

They focus more on what could go wrong, rather than what could go right

In 2019, I’m going to do something that I’ve always dreamed of

I’m going somewhere I’ve never been

I’m eating something I’ve never eaten

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. – 2 Tim 1:7
